Fairy Tale by Miwa Yanagi

Thanks to those motherlovers at Disney, people nowadays associate fairy tales with children. Sweet princesses, pink castles and good beating bad. But that was not how fairy tales were written by The Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen. Those original fairy tales were dark, evil and made children cry! I have these original tales in books, and they really are an amazing read!

Japanese photographer Miwa Yanagi seems to completely understand my frustrations and he made this beautiful series of very dark fairy tale pictures. Many reminding me of excellent Japanese horror movies and the work of Chris Cunningham. I'm a fan!

Juha Arvid Helminen - Shadow People

These beautiful photos by Finnish photographer Juha Arvid Helminen remind me of so many photos I've seen in the past and still they're very original in their own way. Erwin Olaf comes to mind (his classic series BLACKS and later on SEPERATION), but also the more darker work by Steven Klein. And if I can be really silly it even reminds me of Can You Forgive Her, by Pet Shop Boys ;) But overall it's a very beautiful approach to the concept "Invisible People", portraits without faces.
