In the 80's the name Madonna was so unusual itself she didn't need a nickname. But in the years after that, she was often referred to in different ways. The early 90's were sacred to me. Madonna was cheeky, daring, original and referred to as Mo. I liked Mo.
Then there was the change to Great Britain. The accent, the husband, the musical influences and Mo became Madge. Damn, I always hated that name. It sounds old fashioned, vulgar and cheap. It sounded british... Maybe it suited her in these years, because the role of others took the overhand in her creative process and the fun Madonna disappeared. Sure, I did enjoy a lot she's done since, let's say, 1997, but it was never the late 80's and early 90's.
Now rumours say she will head back to New York City after divorcing and settling. That sounds good, because that's the place she belongs in my opinion.
When she does... can we agree on one thing? Let's never call her Madge again. Let's get back to Mo, because Mo stands for a creative, funny and overall way more interesting Madonna!
