Above is an artist impression of a new hotel in Zaandam, a city in the Netherlands. Zaandam is known for its typical green buildings and is an image of the dutch spread all over the world (especially in China and Japan for some reason) as you can see on the picture below.
WAM Architects decided to use this image for this new hotel. And they completely Veganized the typical dutch facade into this hideous big building with stacked houses and typical colours. I'm definately going to see this thing for myself very soon.
And for my Dutch speaking visitors, here's an interview with the architect:

Oh My God! What an awful building. I like the interior, but the building itself is a monster.
I couldn't agree with you more. Horrible!
I'm trying to like it... it's something new, and fresh, and... euhm...
Ok, I give up, it's hideous indeed. And the architect's argument that it's a happy building is an opinion that I don't share. And not because it's kitchy/ornamented, but because a giant cube with poor cute houses smacked on it stays a giant, lumpish cube. And not a pretty one.
Exactly, it doesn't look happy. It looks more like a thai coastline after a Tsunami.
hmmm it's like the stuck a bunch of houses together? Its a bit much, maybe they have comfortable beds at least....
They've gone way to far with the idea, but I still can appreciate what they wanted to do. But, I guess Zaandam doesn't have a 'aestathic committee' like most Dutch cities have, to make sure there's a certain quality of buildings in their city...
By the way: all of last week I saw your homepage as if it was on the 1 of september that you posted your last item. Glad to see all new items again!
RP, then there's something wrong... I post every day.
