Global Humor?

The world is globalising more and more. Every corner of the world has a McDonalds, the internet is almost completely in english and Oprah is broadcasted in almost every country. You almost would think our minds are all alike no matter where we are. But luckily that's not true. Humor has still not globalised.

Last week I posted an image banning all Mexicans from my website and last year I did a post complaining about the bad quality of clothing made by those poor chinese children. All irony which I expected everyone to understand. But no.

Last year I suddenly got a lot of visits from a chinese forum and with a little help from Babelfish I understood that these people were furious about the post. On the "Ban mexicans"-post I got an anonymous reply saying it was harsh and distasteful.

Okay, maybe my sense of humor is just a bit black or plain bad, but that's not what I wanna discuss. I wanna know if there's typical humor for different parts of the world. I know there's a big difference between traditional British humor and American humor (we've all seen the American versions of British comedy's by now, some are excellent remakes, but most are awfull), but is there also a thing like Asian humor? Most dutch people say Germans have no humor at all, but my sweet friend Parand proved the opposite last december by showing us some real good German comedy.

So, where are you from and what is typical humor in your part of the world? And what kind of humor don't you like at all? Or am I wrong and doesn't it depend on the country, just on personal taste? Talk amongst yourselves....

I love your humor! Screw those other bastards! And I say that the best, BEST clothes are made by those three-fingered children in Vietnam! I have dress shirt that was made there and it is just flawless - the stitching, the cloth, the cut, all of it.

humor is definitely cultural, it varies immensely from country to country..look at Japan and those TV shows totally based on pain and shame, gets the Japanese hysterical, while we look in awe...or the Brits with the absurd slapstick of Monty Phyton, impossible to understand by the French...

To expand a bit more on US humor, it depends on where the humor is pointed. If it is pointed away from you it is riotously funny and completely acceptable. If it is pointed toward you it is vile, offensive and unacceptable. Sort of the same thing in US politics. If you are with us (no matter what disgusting things we do) you are a patriot. If you are against us you are a terrorist.

As Someone who works with chinese people for the last 3 years i guarantee you that NO HUMOR on they're expence is something they can tolerate. even general jokes or funny remarks produce blunt faces upon they're faces. Don't even try :-).
And that's before talking on the Israeli Kind of Humor...
