Damn, I really thought this was a hard one! Or hard-on as you wish. I indeed referred to Further Tales of the City. And those are indeed Diomedes! Or godlike cumming...
It's between Alaska and Russia, Glen. The most narrow point in the Bering Strait. Two islands called Big Diomede and Little Diomede. They're featured in Further Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin.
I was lucky, Daan. The islands looked arctic to me so I looked at Spitzbgen. Nothing there. So, I wondered about the Bering Strait. And there they were! This was also a case of a picture view that changes dramatically on close up. You have to zoom in to see the snow/ice view.
Glen, since I found the answer quickly (and easily), I thought that others might too. So I submitted a cryptic answer so as not to spoil the fun. Of course, I had to hope that Daan understood! :-)

You're "standing" where Sarah Palin should have been when she looked out her window...
Or perhaps you are on a nostalgic "Further Tales of the City" tour?
The names of those islands means "god-like cunning". Heh heh. That's appropriate for these contests, don't you think! :-)
IN-CRE-DI-BLE!

Congrats!
So where IS this at? The cryptic answer does not tell me a thing. I am assuming somewhere in Alaska, but that is the largest US State.
