Princess Maxima by Erwin Olaf

Last week our beautiful Royal Highness Princess Maxima celebrated her 40th birthday. And apart from a very open interview she gave to Dutch National Television, these beautiful photos by Erwin Olaf were published. Stunning works and I am glad Erwin Olaf got this oppertunity!

Not to sound too ignorant, but what is the significance of the black strip of cloth on one shoulder? Is it in recognition of mourning?

I really have no idea. There's not much mourning going around here these days, so I guess it's just fashion :))

Especcialy the one at the window. It fits perfectly in Olaf's recent work of lonely women. Although these royal pictures miss the sad tone.
